The Reiki Symbols are powerful extensions of the Reiki System of Natural Healing. There is a lot of controversy surrounding the Reiki Symbols and their true nature remain somewhat of a mystery to all but the most experienced Reiki practitioners. This article hopes to demystify the Reiki Symbols and shed some light on the best ways to incorporate them into your Reiki practice for the most effective results.
Each Reiki Symbol manifests a separate and distinct energy and it is most important to learn all you can about the unique powers and abilities associated with each of the symbols. There are many books written about Reiki and many Websites dedicated to its proliferation each of which can give you invaluable pointers toward more abundance through a regular practice of Reiki.
Many years ago I met a man in Bangkok who could identify certain gemstones just by passing his hands over them. When I asked him how he did it he just said “Practice!!” or so my guide translated. I have no doubt that Dr. Usui could do the same thing by passing his hands over the Reiki Symbols. Each one has its own specific and unique frequency and through practice one can learn to effectively and effortlessly identify those frequencies.
Personally, I do not believe it is necessary to learn to identify written Reiki Symbols with your eyes closed, but I do believe it is necessary to learn to identify them when you are using them. The bottom line is that the more you use them, the more familiar you are with them and the easier they will be to distinguish. The more you can fine-tune this art, the more control you will have over the energies… plain and simple. This is quite similar to the viewing of auras, in that practice makes perfect as discussed here.
Beginning with your first Reiki attunement you are exposed to the subtle Reiki energies. Some people are more disposed to actually sensing this energy, while others feel nothing at all. To some, it is manifest visually, others sense it physically… so there really is no right way to perceive them. You just need to allow your awareness to open in order to be able to identify which way the Reiki energy is coming through to you personally. For me, it has always been a tingling in my hands… I’ve never witnessed the swirling vortexes of light some of my students have… and I probably never will.
After you learn to notice the Reiki energy you can start work on fine-tuning it. You can turn your efforts toward turning it on faster and looking for subtle differences as you use it in different situations. Repeated use will make this natural and quite enjoyable, and so very little effort is really needed… you just need to remember to practice it.
Once you have mastered the Reiki energy itself you are ready to move on to the individual energies manifest by the Reiki symbols themselves. This is done by turning your attention one at a time to the symbols, getting used to that specific frequency ad energy and trying to fine-tune and enhance those specific energies. Success is guaranteed, although your mileage may vary.
I have been repeatedly asked my position on the exposure or publishing of the Reiki Symbols in books and on the Internet, and whether or not I believe they should be kept secret (as discussed here) and I truly believe that without a disciplined approach to using them they are virtually just worthless pictures, and only the most dedicated practitioners are going to give them the time and the attention they need. For those willing to put forward that effort, whether personally attuned by a Reiki Master, Self-Attuned, or attuned by the energy itself… they deserve the right to use that energy… and the respect for having done so.
