Reiki & Pets

Today I’d like to talk about Reiki and Pets, as I had the pleasure of visiting an old friend today who was a bit surprised at the way her dog reacted when I arrived. Generally she just barks at people she is not familiar with until they just go away, but she (Love Love) treated me like I was part of the family, even though we only met once, and it was almost 2 years ago.

At the time, Love Love’s Mommy was one of my Japanese Reiki students and I was giving her a short demonstration on how to give Reiki to Animals. Love Love was a most willing subject and at the time was no more than a pup. I pointed out the general positions of the Chakras, which are basically the same for all of our four legged friends, and it wasn’t long before Love Love was fast asleep in my lap… or so I thought until I tried to untangle myself from the situation so that I could work on her Mom. Love Love growled her discontent at the sudden end of the session, but was back to her faux sleep state the moment I resumed… far be it from me to deny the simple requests of nature. ๐Ÿ™‚

Animals seem to have an innate sense of what Reiki is all about… perhaps more so than us lesser evolved species. In my experience, dogs will freely come a callin’ when they need a Reiki energy boost (just make sure that they don’t get addicted to it) while cats need to be coaxed in to it (while maintaining the attitude that it is, after all, a Cat thing). I’ve also had the pleasure of giving Reiki to birds, hamsters, rabbits, and even a snake once. With the exception of the snake, they all seemed to enjoy and appreciate it immensely. (The snake didn’t really seem to care).

For those of you with the opportunity to give Reiki healing to your pets, I sure hope you don’t let the opportunity pass you by. Not only will it give you a chance to practice, but will also develop a bond that will not soon be forgotten. And for those of you who are Reiki Masters, you might also want to give your pet a Reiki attunement… and perhaps someday they will return the healing when they sense you need it!!

For further explanation or discussion, your thoughts are most welcome and highly encouraged, please feel free to comment below!!!

  1. I have been fortunate to have many of my Reiki students take the path of using Reiki for animals. Several work with horses, which are very sensitive & responsive to Reiki. I also have a student who is working at the aquarium with the animals… whales, penguins, etc. and they all appear to appreciate the Reiki healings.
