I received a call from one of my first Reiki students yesterday and she mentioned that she was having trouble with insomnia. I gave her a few suggestions on how to use Reiki to help the situation… and here they are…
First off I would Reiki the bedroom. Especially the corners. Stagnant energetic buildup can cause disturbances and interference with your sleep as these energies don’t necessarily restrict themselves to the corners at all times. If you could view them it would like they were breathing… in and out… and they expand and contract as they do. IF they expand to the point where they make contact with your own energy field, or if your own energy field expands to the point where it makes contact (since it is also constantly shifting in size and position), that is where the trouble may be. So give the room a good Reiki cleanup… use the first Reiki symbol and direct it at the walls, floor, ceiling and especially the corners and allow the Reiki to flow to those areas. If you can feel the hibiki, continue until it subsides.
Secondly, I would make sure you have been receiving your own healthy dose of Reiki treatments. Either self-Reiki or a treatment by a colleague, family member or friend will make sure your own energies are balanced enough to get a good night’s sleep. I would focus the Reiki on your head, as insomniacs that I’ve personally encountered seem to have some kind of energetic buildup there. If you don’t have time for a full session… just spend a good 20 minutes on your head. Doing so, especially before sleeping (and/or actually falling asleep while doing so) can be quite soothing.
Third, you can send distance Reiki to your future (hopefully) sleeping self to arrive at intervals during the night. Use the Reiki distance symbol and set your intent to deliver Reiki to you all through the night. I would avoid using the power symbol for this one because, for more sensitive practitioners, it’s added energy might actually wake you up if you do manage to get to sleep.
Fourth, take a Reiki bath before going to sleep. As you soak, connect to Reiki, use the power symbol and allow the Reiki to flow from your hands into the water. Then let it wash all over you and be absorbed as you bathe. For an added relaxation technique, add a few drops of pre-Reikied marjoram essential oil mixed in a teaspoon of milk to your bath. This can be quite powerful so don’t overdo it with the marjoram.
Fifth, give your pillow, blanked and bed a healthy dose of Reiki in case their own energies need (re)balancing. Energies can build up there as well and if you use organic bedding it tends to sustain these energies for much greater lengths of time.
Sixth, I would add meditation to your daily schedule if it isn’t there already. I believe meditation can be the best help for getting a good nights sleep and if you combine your meditation with Reiki (i.e., a daily Reiki meditation) you should be sleeping like a baby in no time.
Finally, as with all healing recommendations, I would be neglect if I didn’t advise anyone with health problems to see a licensed medical practitioner. There could be deeper reasons that medical science might be more helpful in alleviating. Of course Reiki can always be used in conjunction… but don’t take my word (or the word of any other Reiki practitioner) over that of your doctor… by all means use the Reiki along side conventional medicine, but don’t replace it completely… not yet! ![]()
