Another common question I receive from students concerns thought processes during a Reiki session, that is how can you keep up your concentration on Reiki, in a Reiki healing session? And the quick answer is… you don’t!!!
There really is no controlling Reiki so there is no use in trying. The proper way to do it is to just turn on the Reiki energy and then just get out of the way and let it do it’s thing. Reiki energy has an intelligence that is far beyond our own (discussed here), and it knows what to do. It is like a positive (+) magnet that is automatically attracted to a negative (-) polarity. Just get your hands within striking distance (so to speak) and Reiki will find its way.
Exceptions to this are found during certain advanced Reiki exercises (like byosen scanning), during Reiki attunements (where concentration on the Reiki energy being channeled is necessary), and with certain styles of Reiki which are generally blended with other healing modalities and teach other ways of performing Reiki, as well as in systems like Quantum Touch Healing which requires a constant concentration on the energy in order to keep it alive (not an easy task). In traditional Usui Reiki this is just not necessary… turn it on, and go to sleep!!
Reiki healing is actually a very good time for a meditation… you can meditate on whatever you like as discussed here and here. Give it a try!!
