Reiki Cool

The definition of cool has changed over the years, and Reiki Coolness seems to be no exception. Over the years I’ve seen many changes in Reiki beliefs, in people’s beliefs in general actually, and its interesting to watch the various trends as they come and go and notice the ones that stick.

Cool Reiki People

There’s no doubt about it that Dr. Usui would have been considered ubercool in his day. Of course in those days things were different and things we take for granted nowadays weren’t even considered. Here was a guy coming down from the mountain with this mysterious spiritual power and the ability to give that power to others. Kind of like Moses, except that instead of returning from the mountain with the 10 Commandments, Dr. Usui returned with the 5 Reiki Principles. Carrying a torch indicating that he had seen the light and those that were ready were inexplicably drawn like moths to the flame. Definitely cool!! Likewise, Dr. Hayashi, Mrs. Takata and of course my teachers Hiroshi Doi and Hyakuten Inamoto all have/had elements of cool that not only make/made their teachings desirable… but gave them several stars on the Reiki Coolness rating scale. How do you rate?

Cool Reiki Ideas

Over the years there have been many non-Reiki (in the traditional sense) components added to Reiki. Those that have stuck have even been incorporated into modern Japanese Reiki teachings, while those that haven’t still live on in some styles and only time will tell if they will make the cut to become Reiki Proper. One of the first was the Reiki Master Symbol, which was not originally a symbol at all (it was simply a calligraphy that Dr. Usui presented to his master students to remind them of their Reiki goal… enlightenment). Over the years it has been used as the 4th Symbol and since so many people are using it as a Reiki Master Symbol it has actually become a Reiki Master Symbol. How cool is that? Incorporating various meditations, Chakra work, crystals, distance attunements, Reiki drums, etc. are all relatively new components and since Reiki is organic (i.e., it can’t be kept in a box) it is wonderful to witness these developments as they occur and wonder which ones will be considered Reiki Cool and subsequently make the grade.

It will be quite interesting to see what unfolds in the future in regard to Reiki and what will be cool enough to jump from one Reiki style to another. With the sheer power of the Internet to reach huge masses of people ideas are spreading fast and furiously… and Reiki is one movement that it is really cool to be involved in, isn’t it?

One response to “Reiki Cool”

  1. I am always in awe of the sheer power of Reiki and of its organic nature. It is alive and intelligent and as such I believe that it adapts to what is needed at specific times/places. I also believe that it unfolds itself to us as we evolve and are able to understand it more even as it evolves with us (all things alive evolve and I believe that as humanity evolves we are able to see, experience and understand even more about Reiki Energy). I believe that because the Reiki Energy is also alive, it evolves as well in as much as it brings in what is needed as we change. Because it evolves, it is constantly teaching us (or…is it that as we change/evolve we see more deeply into the Reiki Energy and perceive it/experinece at ever deepening levels? Hmmmmmmm….).

Lorem Ipsum has been the industrys standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown prmontserrat took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.
