reiki-olympics

With the Beijing Olympics finally underway I was thinking… wouldn’t it be nice if there were a Reiki Olympics? At first I just chuckled at the thought, but like one of those nagging ideas that just won’t quit it kept creeping back into my consciousness… so I thought I’d better give it some attention before it did some harm, and so here goes…

The Opening Ceremony

In the opening ceremony of the Reiki Olympics, imagine a parade of hundreds, or maybe even thousands of Reiki healers from all over the world, entering the stadium, all in gassho, and forming a big circle. As one, they all raise their hands and connect to Reiki and proceed to perform the biggest Reiki Mawashi on record. Awesome!!!

Then, as a giant globe slowly rises up into the air, they, again as one, draw the power symbol (or whatever equivalent symbol is used in their style (those without a symbol can just draw a big peace sign) face their palms towards the globe and proceed to send Healing Reiki Energy to the entire Earth.

The Reiki Competitions

Reiki Olympic competitions would basically be derived from the second pillar of Reiki, Reiki Energetics (see my post on The Three Pillars of Reiki for details). Some of the categories would include:

  • detecting the presence of Reiki energy
  • distinguishing between the energy of different symbols
  • detecting and diagnosing byosen
  • charging crystals and gemstones with Reiki energy
  • and of course, healing!!!

Judging the competitions might prove difficult, but not impossible… and probably no more difficult than some of the battles I’ve seen on Olympic soccer grounds. As long as clear objectives are determined, they should be fine.

Imagine the USA and Japan fighting it out in the 50 Crystal Marathon, Argentina against England in the 200 meter Hibiki Slalom, China vs. Australia in the Underwater Healing Relay, and, lest we forget, South Africa against Italy in the 48 Kg. Reiki Egg Hunt.

Just to name a few…

Who will take the gold? Who will taste the bitter agony of defeat? The result of thousands of hours of practice, testing and training for that one international event that towers above the rest… imagine putting Olympic Gold Metal Winner on your Reiki ResumeWhat an achievement!!!

The Closing Ceremony

To wrap it all up, in the Closing Ceremony of the Reiki Olympics we turn to the Third Pillar of Reiki which involves all the participants coming together in a meditation for world peace, affectionately dubbed “the silence heard ’round the world”… something to tell your grandchildren about, again and again and again…

Of course this post is mere fantasy (and has been rather fun to write)… but imagine a world where it wasn’t… imagine a world where mastery of spiritual pursuits is just as highly esteemed as being able to jump up in the air and stuff a ball through a hoop… it’s easy if you try…
