They say there is no cure for the common cold, and that may very well be true, but there is certainly a way to combat it (besides washing your hands and gargling) and of course that way is through Reiki. This applies to influenza as well and other perennial annoyances (’tis the season after all) so today I’d like to look at applications of Reiki in fighting the common cold.
Fever, runny nose, sore throat, nasal congestion, fatigue, sneezing, coughing, muscle aches, malaise, headaches, muscle weakness, loss of appetite and extreme exhaustion are a few of the more common symptoms of the common cold and while there has never been a cure (although I think properly prepared echinacea extract comes pretty close) there are plenty of products out there which aim at relieving the symptoms. I believe Reiki can not only ward off the common cold (and influenza) but relieve the symptoms just as effectively as any of the antibiotics or over-the-counter remedies that are currently in vogue.
A case in point happened to me 2 or 3 years ago. I took my daughter in for a runny nose and the doctor asked how I was feeling. I told him I was completely fine but he insisted on taking a swab and minutes later informed me that I had influenza. I remember having had a slight headache that morning, but after my regular self-Reiki treatment and meditation I felt fine. He told me my throat was raw, I was running a fever, and displayed several other symptoms, but I had no absolutely no idea I was sick. He told me I should take some antibiotics to prevent the flu from spreading to other people, which I had no problem with (even though I generally refrain from taking any kind of medication). I don’t remember all the details although I do remember having gotten quite the chuckle out of it.
Of course, since prevention is the best medicine (yes, even better than laughter), Reiki can be used to keep yourself in optimal health so that your body has the ability to fight off any dis-ease that comes your way. Regular Reiki treatments (either administered by yourself or a willing Reiki practitioner) go a long way towards preventing infections from happening in the first place by keeping your energy channels free from blocks and running smoothly. I believe clearing out stagnant energy and replacing it with fresh, vital energy and keeping a fresh flow of ki will defer any illness at all.
If you missed the preventive boat (so to speak) and find yourself (or a loved one) having succumbed to one of these seasonal annoyances, the first thing you want to do is relieve the symptoms. Along with Reiki, Aromatherapy is my favorite treatment, and when used together they make a formidable team. Check out my post on Reiki and Aromatherapy if you want some pointers in that direction. Steam inhalations and aroma oil massages are my favorites… just don’t forget to add Reiki to the essential oil blend.
My favorite Reiki treatment for colds and flu is Zenshin Koketsu Ho and since an explanation of it requires its own post I will go into detail on how to perform it tomorrow.
In my experience I don’t find distance treatments work so well for treating winter colds and self-Reiki also takes a long time to notice the effects, so even if you are a Reiki Master, I recommend getting a series of full Reiki treatments every day until you feel better, they definitely work the best and are the fastest way to combat these persistent bugs. Getting to a Reiki Share and having several people work on you at the same time is even better, but due to their highly contagious nature they should all be adequately shielded when working on you. Again, there are some essential oils (like Ravensara) which can be used in a diffuser to keep the germs at bay during a treatment.
Reiki is also important during the recovery phase, so don’t forget that important aspect for yourself or for others. Not only can it prevent a relapse, but can make sure the body has completely returned to its natural state of health.
So for all my readers, especially during this season… please stay well!!!
