No this isn’t about the book Reiki Fire… yesterday there was a major blaze at one of the condos in my building… right down the hall from me as a matter of fact… and it got me to thinking… the results of which are found here…
WOW… imagine everything you own going up in smoke! This was a family of four (husband, wife, college girl, high school boy) and rumor has it that the son was home alone at the time.
I was at a restaurant down the road when my cell phone started humming… call after call after call from friends wondering if I was okay. I had no idea what they were talking about but my wife finally got an email with the details. Sure enough, a glance out the window of the restaurant showed the smoke billowing in the distance.
Details about the exact location were sketchy at first but when we learned it was on our floor… panic swept in. My wife was convinced she left the iron on.
Things were rather tense for a few minutes until a call confirmed that it was down the hall and apartments on each side might sustain some damage (as well as the one immediately above and below)… but ours was fine. Phew!!! What a relief… still… just imagine!!! ![]()
My first thoughts were for the family… no one was hurt, but I’m sure their son had some ‘splaining to do when they got home. The daughter is an extremely shy girl, even by Japanese standards, but she is very nice… as is the entire family. Seeing the whole community pitch in to help out was truly heartwarming… even though the smell of smoke still hasn’t abated. I suppose that in the grand scheme of things this would barely warrant a footnote… still… what a tragedy!
Y’all may be wondering how this all applies to Reiki… and I was just about to get around to that…
First is the obvious need for Reiki that I’m sure the family has. Usually I am sending Reiki to situations I read about in the newspaper… I rarely get a chance like this to “go live” as it were, and I must admit the situation was quite revealing.
The 100 or so firemen, policemen and emergency workers all got their fair share of Reiki as well. From those who were actually inside the building fighting the flames to those who were down the street directing traffic… the dedication was awe inspiring.
All the people being inconvenienced also deserved some Reiki energy. Neighbors who had to leave their homes, those who had to park at quite a distance just to get home, and those who couldn’t even get near their homes due to the main street being packed with emergency vehicles.
Finally the situation, or the fire itself seemed in need of some Reiki healing. I was close enough to feel the heat from it (even above the unusually hot summer temperature of the day) and there was also an anger element to it that I wasn’t sure how to interpret. The best I can do is that it just seemed angry at everyone and everything around it and its only thought was in the destruction or devastation of anything in its path. When I pointed my Reiki gun at it it didn’t seem to notice or care… but after awhile I felt its attention on me… and that feeling was actually chilling. I didn’t let up though, and after awhile I felt it subside. I can still feel that chill though and I’m not really sure what to make of it all…
The nervous tension in the air, the excitement, the sense of wonder, the worry, the relief, the smell of smoke… all combined to form quite an image and a memory that is not easily forgotten. I said the situation was quite revealing and what I meant is that sending Reiki to a fire I read about in the newspaper is quite a bit different than the one I experienced. Sending Reiki at a distance removes so many elements from the equation that perhaps should not be removed. Just allowing Reiki’s intelligent energy to know where to go and do the right thing is quite a bit different than considering all the different people, places, and things that are directly connected to the situation and in need of Reiki healing (including the situation itself).
All in all, I learned a lot and will be handling the distance Reiki I send to emergency situations quite a bit differently in the future. Now if I can just shake that chill…
