For the past few days we have been discussing the importance of balance on the physical, mental and emotional planes. If youโll recall the basic premise is that Reiki is all about (re)balancing our natural energies when something has caused them to go out of whack <technical term>. Reiki, as intelligent energy, is drawn to energetic imbalances like a magnet is drawn to its polar opposite.Today we are going to shift that discussion to the all too frequently overlooked spiritual plane.
Spiritual Health
Okay, so what exactly is spiritual health? The web is littered with advice for improving your spiritual health but I couldnโt find one definition that satisfied me, so I guess Iโll have to formulate my own. โOh botherโฆโ as the wise pooh bear would say.
If mental health is being defined as the absence of mental disorder and emotional health is defined as the absence of emotional disorder can you guess what my definition will be? Oohโฆ.. good guessโฆ I sense a Reiki blogger in the making!
For those who couldnโt guess, for all intents and purposes spiritual health basically refers to the absence of a spiritual disorder (or a block in the spiritual energy channels.
Spiritual well-being denotes a general balance in all of the spiritual faculties. This includes all of the activities under the jurisdiction of the spirit This includes all aspects of spirituality, religion, ethics, morals, values, and quite a few of the more esoteric and abstract areas of philosophy. In its simplest sense, when all of these things are running smoothly and there are no kinks at all in any of them, we have a state of spiritual well-being.
Balancing Your Spiritual Health
Balancing your spiritual health is both quite different and quite similar to physical, mental and emotional balancing. The similarities include the preponderance of energy (either negative or positive, if you will) causing the natural flow of things to become obstructed and resulting in dis-ease. Differences revolve around the level of individuality contained in the concept of spirituality.
Iโm going to cut and paste a bit from previous posts again, as there is no need to restate things and I donโt want you to have to keep flipping back and forth between pages. Again, I will, be sure to point out any noticeable differences.
As is true in dealing with physical, mental and emotional imbalances Reiki is said to intelligently provide the counter energy necessary to correct the energetic imbalances which lie at the root cause of all dis-ease. Reiki works exactly the same way with spiritual imbalances. If you could see energy, than something like our example of a physical imbalance seen in a broken leg would appear like a black cloud of energy in the general area of the injury. Spiritual “injuries” would appear the same, i.e., as black clouds generally somewhere around the seventh chakra (although the spirtual etheric field is quite vast and could extend outward for quite a ways). Again, if you could see energy, you would be able to witness Reiki energy as it attacks this black cloud, not in a violent sense, but more like pouring cold water into a pot of boiling water until the water was at room temperature (which represents balance).
With Reiki (as with other similar healing modalities) it has long been acknowledged that these energy imbalances are, nine times out of ten, in the form of energy blocks. That is, one (or more) of the natural rivers that carry energy to and through spiritual our vortexes are blocked. Kind of like a dam. As that energy builds up and backs up it begins to stagnate and harden and becomes more and more difficult to break through with each passing day. This is the main reason I encourage my students to always use distance Reiki to send Reiki back in time to when the block was first createdโฆ because it is much easier to deal with new blocks than with old ones. That technique is quite powerful when used in conjunction with hands-on healing.
Returning to the differences inherent in spiritual health, humans have similar bodies making our physical appearances quite similar, similarly we share similar thought patterns and mental health (while being a bit more abstract than physical health) generally falls within a specific range for everyone. Emotional similarities also similarly abound. Yet when we are discussing spirituality, unless you confine it to a particular religion, there are virtually no limits and no easily definable similarities. When we meditate it is not clear exactly where our spirit flies off to and there is very little recollection of where it was once it returns, hence there has never been a spiritual map as there have been physical, mental and emotional ones.
Reiki, being first and foremost a spiritual path, allows us to proceed on our own unique spiritual paths and blast away any blocks that occur using the sheer awesomeness of Reiki energy.
It is said that while we all have unique spiritual paths they all lead to the same place. Reiki just ensures a smother trip.
Tomorrow Iโd like to recap these 4 healths and talk about how they all work together to create a sense of overall balance. So be sure to tune in again.
