reiki-effectiveness

I had an interesting Skype conversation yesterday with a Reiki practitioner friend of mine who works part time at hospice in Texas and she was quite chagrined about Reiki’s seeming ineffectiveness on the job. When she first started working there she was quite convinced that she would be able to miraculously help countless people… as it turns out, that is not the case and she has grown quite disillusioned about it. I’ll tell you what I told her…

Most of the patients she cares for are cancer patients and they are in their final stages. They know it. Their families know it. The medical staff knows it. And none of them pretend otherwise. Sure miracles happen… but they are few and far between and they all realize the dangers inherent in getting one’s hope up. At that stage, if the patient is convinced that nothing can be done and they have made their peace with God, than I truly believe it’s too late to perform any kind of miraculous healing. That does not mean that Reiki has no use… far from it… the effectiveness of Reiki is just found on an entirely different level.

By the same token, if one truly doesn’t want to get well and has made up their mind that they are gonna die and that that’s just the way its gonna be… then they won’t get well, and no amount of Reiki is going to change that. But again, that doesn’t mean that Reiki has no use…

I’ve been around my fair share of such cases and I basically have found two types of people when it comes down to the final act. The first are those whose eyes have glazed over and grown dim and you can see the light going out a little more each day. These cases are truly disheartening and it takes an incredibly strong person to be around them and not be moved (one way or the other). The other are the ones that never fail to simply amaze me… these are the ones who’s eyes actually get brighter, they seem to have developed a wisdom and a serenity, virtually overnight, that can only be termed enlightenment. They have answers they never had before and they are the ones telling others that “everything’s gonna be alright”.

I have also seen Reiki change people from the first case to the second. That is the true power of Reiki in these dire situations. It is too late to cure the disease, I’ll write more specifically on dealing with cancer one of these days, it really is a stubborn and angry energy that is quite difficult to placate, but the Reiki can then be directed towards the heart and soul and, if accepted, can have the most profound effect… although sometimes it doesn’t appear until very late in the game.

I’ve seen many examples where this is the case and in my opinion they are no less miracles than the more commonly accepted, state of the art, garden variety, you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all miracles. They happen every day and are largely overlooked, which truly is a shame. If you are involved in such a case, just keep pumping Reiki in until it shoots out of their eyes… and it will… and then it will have the most amazing effect on everyone involved.

And, by the way, I’ve never stopped looking for the other kind of miracle either… and I really don’t think I ever will.
