reiki-in-the-air

Just gave an Intro to Reiki class and one of the students was leaving this weekend for America… trouble was she has a great fear of flying and was wondering how Reiki might help. The fact that flying is one of the safest forms of travel doesn’t really comfort those who are not at ease in the air. Wanna know what I told her? Read on…

There are many possible reasons for this dis-ease and taking them each into account may narrow down the exact cause(s). These include (but are not limited to) fear of heights, worrying about turbulence, lack of control, dependence on an unknown pilot, annoyance with flight attendants and fellow passengers, uncomfortable in tight spaces, uncomfortable with crowds, impatience with schedule delays and the incessant waiting, body searches at each corner of the airports, unfamiliarity with the various sounds and happenings around you, not understanding the dynamics of flight, the possibility of terrorism, etc. Discovery of the exact cause(s) can make the situation much easier to deal with.

There are two parts involved in making your flight an enjoyable one. Before the flight and during the flight. Before the flight it is helpful to send distance Reiki forward in time to the flight itself. Send Reiki to the airplane, to the pilot and crew, to the flight attendants, fellow passengers, the airports and air traffic controllers at both end of the flight, the weather conditions en route, and of course your future self in the air.ย  A simple Reiki meditation visualizing the flight and sending Reiki to everyone and everything involved will not only give them Reiki, but will also give you some peace of mind that Reiki has been sent and that the Reiki energies are aware of the situation and are working to making it as comfortable as possible.

During the flight you can also continue to send Reiki to the above mentioned ‘everyone and everything’ and you can also pay attention to the typical symptoms brought on by the situation in yourself and others around you and deal with them as they occur. These include sweating, dry mouth, muscle tension, pale face, bodily tremors, heavy breathing, dizziness, racing heart, chest pain, weakness, abdominal and intestinal discomfort, prickly sensations, etc. When you get to the airport (or even before in some extreme cases) notice which of these occur… patiently be like the cat waiting for the mouse to come out of the hole and as soon as one of these sensations is detected, give it Reiki immediately. The sooner you catch it the easier it will be to control.

For most people flying is an enjoyable experience. Focusing on arriving safely at your destination (which is the most probable outcome) and not the current situation will make it a much more relaxing experience. Above all… sticking to the Reiki principle of “Don’t Worry” will take care of most of it…
