I refer to my own personal style of Reiki as Hana Reiki. Hana is Japanese for “flowers” which represents both my last name as well as the organic (and beautiful) nature of Reiki and the Reiki Energies. I’ve alluded to this style in past posts… and have been receiving many inquiries about it… I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce you to my own teachings and tell you a little bit about Hana Reiki here.Hana Reiki’s levels are based on the Three Pillars of Reiki… Reiki Healing, Reiki Energy and Reiki Spirituality.

Hana Reiki Level One – The Healing Level

In the Hana Reiki System, Level One is called Shoden in Japanese (Beginner’s Level) and is designed with the complete beginner in mind. It introduces both traditional as well as Western Reiki practices, history, techniques and theory. The main goal of Level One training is to master Reiki Hands-On Healing and to get as much experience with Reiki healing as possible. Reiki hand positions for healing others as well as for healing oneself are introduced, Reiki music for accentuating the healing, Mrs. Takata’s version of Reiki as well as Dr. Usui’s version are discussed, the attunement process and what to expect from it, analysis of pre- and post- Reiki exercises, trainings and expectations, establishment of a regular Reiki practice as well as an introduction to the higher levels and some (extremely) basic exercises to get the seeds for the energy and spiritual work planted.

Once a student has completed Level One training, they can only move on to Level Two once they have demonstrated a mastery of Level One. In the case of a Reiki Master from another style, they may complete Level One and Level Two training together if they can demonstrate adequate knowledge of the Level One components. Depending on one’s prior experience with and aptitude for energy healing, class time is one or two days… including multiple attunements, meditations, and full Reiki treatments.

Hana Reiki Level Two – The Energy Level

Hana Reiki Level Two is called Chuden in Japanese (Intermediate Level) and introduces the student to an in depth study of Reiki energy and advanced applied energetics. I sometimes refer to this as the Gendai Level, as Gendai Reiki sports a strong bias towards Reiki energy work. The main goal of Level Two training is the complete understanding of Reiki energy. Many different energy exercises are introduced and practiced as well as components of the popular forms of Level Two Reiki training which include mental, emotional and distance healing.

In Hana Reiki Level Two other styles and systems of Reiki (and other energy systems) are also introduced and students receive attunements to these as well in order to practice differentiating between the different forms of energy. These include attunements to the non-Reiki energies of the Chios & Ra Sheeba systems, as well as attunements to the distinct Reiki energies of the Gendai, Seichim, Sacred Flame, Lavender Flame, Violet Flame, and/or any of a dozen other assorted Reiki styles whose energies I have access to.

Once a student has completed Level Two training, they can only move on to Level Three if they can demonstrate a mastery of Level Two. As opposed to other styles of Reiki, this is often not very easy and definitely not recommended for certificate collectors, but for true followers of the Reiki Path, I believe this is the way it should be done. I also distinguish between training and completion… as they are not always the same.

Hana Reiki Level Three – The Spiritual Level

In the Hana Reiki System, Level Three is called Okuden in Japanese (Inner Level) and is concerned primarily with the spiritual side of Reiki and focuses on advanced meditation techniques and practice. I sometimes refer to this as the Komyo Level, as Komyo Reiki places a strong emphasis on spiritual work. The main goal of this level is, of course, enlightenment and students following progressing to this level will have no problem in achieving this. I should mention that I strongly distinguish between spiritual enlightenment and spiritual liberation, as enlightenment is really not that hard to achieve if it is truly sought.

In Hana Reiki Level Three other schools of enlightenment and meditation are also incorporated into the training. The works of Indian spiritualists Ramana Maharshi, Nisagadatta Maharaj and J. Krishnamurti are studied as well as the works of Western thought leaders such as Eckhart Tolle, Gangaji and Adyashanti. Meditation plays a very strong role at this level and different systems of meditation ranging from Zen to Transcendental Meditation to Holosync are discussed. There are many paths to enlightenment and many different doorways which grant access… students experience several of these in order to discover which is right for them.

Once one has completely mastered this level they are awarded the title of Hana Reiki Shihan (Master) and again, I distinguish between training and completion. Students displaying not only the ability to completely understand the system, but also the ability to teach it, will automatically be awarded teacher certification and shinpiden training. I don’t consider this another level and I don’t anticipate that many practitioners will ever reach this level… it is, however, there for the chosen few who aspire towards it.

So there you have it… the Hana Reiki System of Healing, Energetics and Spiritual Growth. I don’t accept many people into the school as most students are looking for something with a bit more of a light at the end of the tunnel… which is why I generally teach Gendai and Komyo Reiki… but little do they know it… all of my students are set on the Hana Reiki Path. 🙂
