Hana Reiki Mudra Meditation

This is another set of Reiki exercises lifted from the Hana Reiki exercise manual that is both for beginners and experienced Reiki practitioners alike. In this post I would like to present the simplified version for those interested.

What Are Mudras?

Mudras are self-created energy blocks. Actually, let me revise that, all energy blocks are self-created, mudras are the ones we create consciously. There are basically five different types of mudras which include:

  • hand mudras: or hand gestures (no, not the ones you see in Italian gangster movies… at least I don’t think so)
  • head mudras: using eyes, tongue, lips, etc.
  • body mudras: or body poses, postures or positions
  • body mudras: or body locks, these invlove locking certain muscles of the body are known as bandhas in yoga
  • perineal mudras: these involve specific energy blocks in the sexual organs and areas of the body

For our purposes here, we are limiting our discussion to the hand mudras, or specifically, 4 simple hand positions which, in our case, are going to be used in meditation.

Hana Reiki Mudra Meditation

To perform this simple meditation, enter the meditative state in whichever way is best for you. Feel free to check out my Reiki Advanced Practice Series Article or my post on Reiki & Meditation for some suggestions. Whether you are sitting in seiza, crosslegged, some yogic pretzel position, in a chair or lying down makes no difference for this exercise. Put your hands anyplace comfortable (as long as they are not touching each other) and put the tips fo your thumb and index finger (aka pointer finger, forefinger, trigger finger, or digitus secundus) together as shown in the image above (if you haven’t RSS’ed it out).

For beginning Reiki Practitioners, all you have to do is hold this position for as long as is comfortable while remaining in a meditative state. As you increase your Reiki energies, perceptions, sensitivities and power this exercise will take on different forms. I encourage you to NOT read articles, books or accounts of others on what THEY experience, but rather to determine what YOU are experiencing without muddying the waters with expectations based on the experiences of others. :!: What do you feel when you do this? What do you feel when you don’t? Is there any difference? Actually there is, you just have to be still enough to notice it… and when you are ready you will.

 A Reiki Best Practice is to keep a journal of all your Reiki experiences as discussed in my post on Indiana Jones and the Lost Reiki Journal of Dr. Usui wherein you first outline and then detail any and all experiences you have with Reiki. In this case, are there any specific thoughts that come to mind when you do this meditation? Can you feel any sensations in any specific part of your body? Any colors or sounds to spring to mind? Any discomfort? Make note of any and all of these and anything else you experience.

The next level of this meditation compares your perceptions of this specific energy with that of another mudra. To do this you simply change the position of your hands so that the thumb and middle finger are now touching instead of the thumb and index figer. Can you feel the difference? Are they affecting different parts of your body? Any differences in your thoughts, attitudes, emotions or feelings? Make a note of these.

Continue with the other fingers, also try variations and combinations of the mudras. Variations include touching your thumb to the inside of the first or second knuckle of hte finger isntead of the fingertip. Any difference? Combinations include touching your thumb to two (or three… or even four) fingertips simultaneously. Any difference? Of course there is… how can there not be… the question is “Can you feel it?”

Continued practice of this technique will increase your Reiki perceptiveness, increase your Reiki power, improve your Reiki practice and take you deeper into the meditative state necessary for reaching spiritual enlightenment. Ah, and take you one step closer to solving the problem with global warming.

For further explanation or discussion, your thoughts are most welcome and highly encouraged, please feel free to comment below!!!
