Reiki Journal

Wouldn’t it be nice if some archaeologist like the esteemed Dr. Jones took an extended interest in the work of Dr. Usui? Imagine the answers that might be provided to the burning questions that abound in Reiki lore in those simple pages. There is no concrete proof of the existence of a Reiki Journal maintained by Dr. Usui in any of the literature I’m familiar with… but I have no doubt that it at one time existed… and perhaps still does!

In Dr. Usui’s time it was common practice to keep a diary or journal… especially for teachers and masters of the more archaic disciplines. In Japan, such things would have been handed down to the next of kin (who, in the case of Dr. Usui, apparently shunned the good Dr. after his spiritual practices put his family and more practical affairs permanently on the back burner). One rumor has it that his family threw all his notes and such in a hole and buried them. Another has it that the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai, being the militaristic organization that it was, secured them (and continues to do so). The bottom line is… we really don’t know.

In all actuality, the main thrust of this post is not even about the Lost Journal of Dr. Usui… but, rather, about your own Reiki Journal…. as I believe such a thing would actually be more important for your own Reiki development than any journal Dr. Usui may (or may not) have left behind. Ideally your Reiki Journal would have been started before actually getting your first Reiki attunement… detailing your expectations, observations and simple thoughts about Reiki, energetic healing and spirituality in general. As your Reiki practice develops having such a resource with which to gauge your progress would be invaluable (as such a journal would be for basically any endeavor you embark upon).

In pursuits such as Reiki it is more important to compare the subtle effects and personal results with yourself rather than comparing them to someone else’s effects and results. Its all about comparing apples with apples. To give a rather simplified example, as you generally begin to see auras, you begin by seeing gray shadows which lead to subtle hues of blue and green, which lead to the even subtler hues of pink and yellow. If, from the onset, you compare your auric capabilities with the picture of a fully developed aura from the Internet or in a book or the observations of one already well versed in aura viewing… you may be extremely disappointed in your abilities (or lack thereof). If you’ve, however, charted your progress along the way, you could use that reference to gauge your progress as well as refer to it later for support in further development. Trends, recurring thought patterns, original ideas, comparative thinking, etc. are all much more readily noticeable if a record is being kept… otherwise, oftentimes they are just as lost in time as the journal of Dr. Usui.

The bottom line… keep a Reiki Journal! 10 years into your Reiki practice you’ll be extremely glad you did!!!

  1. excellent suggestion
it’d probably also be a good way to keep oneself focused on such endeavors
and a way to discipline oneself.
i tend to get lazy, myself

  2. Yeah… the laziness factor is difficult to overccome. I find that I really have to push in the beginning to get the ball rolling on something… after which I’m too lazy to stop it! ๐Ÿ™‚
