Another profession that I feel could benefit tremendously from Reiki is the medical profession… especially doctors… imagine adding Reiki to their already miraculous abilities… I do believe that is the future of medicine, that is, when science has taken us as far as it can we need another source for healing… enter Reiki. ๐
Dr. Jeri Mills (who just so happens to have been my mother’s doctor when she was still in Tucson… does that make her my granddoctor? ๐ ) is a wonderful example of a medical doctor who acknowledges the substantial benefit Reiki has to offer to the medical community. Her book, Tapestry of Healing: Where Reiki and Medicine Intertwine is not only a great and highly recommended read, but I believe it offers a glimpse of that future mentioned above, where two opposing forces (healers and curers) will one day join hand in hand for the betterment of all. Here is a link to her book if you are interested.
Medical doctors are in a unique position indeed in terms of creating ‘acceptable’ belief systems as far as healing is concerned. The human brain is largely still a mystery, a black box if you will, and examples of its extraordinary healing ability abound. Those doctors who are willing, are able to use that to an incredible advantage and this is one of the areas where Reiki can play an important role.
For Reiki doctors out there, if you would put yourself in the shoes of your patients (figuratively speaking) and feel what they feel as they seek out your help. Besides the obvious physical discomfiture, the accompanying mental and emotional distress before, during and after your sessions are just as necessary to deal with on very many different levels. I believe all doctors should have Reiki Level Two training in order to effectively deal with the emotional and mental blocks in the bodies energetic systems (as well as the ability to deal with the physical blocks as learned in Reiki Level One). Applying Reiki energy constantly and consistently and directing it temporally will yield tremendous results.
As scientists, doctors often lean towards a dependence on the explicable as opposed to the theoretical, and are often forced to maintain a layer of protection between themselves and their patients. This may seem cold to some, but it is necessary as, in the words of the immortal Dr. Spock (or was it Mr. Spock?… I always get them confused) the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few… or the one… and without maintaining that layer of protection they would soon be rendered quite ineffective as healers… as they would completely forfeit their objectivity. One of the greatly overlooked practices of many Reiki healers is that they neglect to apply Reiki to themselves on a regular basis… they are so busy healing others that they neglect to heal themselves, and for doctors this would be a terrible oversight as the answer the question of who doctors the doctors?… why Reiki does… of course.

Well I must admit that alot of doctors that I have come into contact with were complete skeptics to begin with, but now my own doctor, who I rarely ever see, seems to realise there is something very valid with applying reiki energy to members of my family to keep them healthy.

Its wonderful that you’re taking care of your family… recently it seems more and more doctors are open to the idea that some of these “alternative” therapies are worthy of consideration and I certainly hope the trend continues!
