One of the most wondrous of Reiki gifts is one that is sadly overlooked by many and that is the ability to see the world anew through your new pair of Reiki eyes. In this post I’d like to take a look at this ability.
With your very first attunement to the Reiki energies (and sometimes even before) you are exposed to the most powerful of personal resources. Before your attunement there were so many things happening in this crazy world that you really couldn’t do anything about. You could only witness the injustices going on around you on a daily basis… but after connecting to these wonderful energies you can actually do something about them. You have the power to alleviate suffering on physical as well as emotional levels and all it really takes is your desire and intention to do so.
The Eyes of a Child
In his wonderful book Zen Mind, Beginners Mind, Shunryu Suzuki introduces the concept of looking at the world through the eyes of a child (check out our Reiki Book Reviews for more information). Compare your reaction to the first time you played in the snow or bit into a luscious red apple to the way you currently (in all likelihood) take them for granted. So many wonderful things are happening around us all the time, but we are so used to them that we hardly bat an eyelash. When one cultivates the ability to look at the world through the eyes of a child it becomes an automatic reaction and you begin to examine everything you encounter as if its the first time. A similar thing happens when you are exposed to Reiki, and through cultivation of this ability you begin to look at the things happening around your through your new Reiki Eyes.
The Eyes of a Reiki Master
Here I use the term Reiki Master not as the title given to you by your certification, but one who has mastered the ability to channel Reiki. This includes Reiki Practitioners of every level and is in no way given automatically to someone merely due to the piece of paper they bought. Fortunately only true Reiki Masters even care about this, so there is no need to say more. ๐
Compare the difference in feeling when you gaze upon the scene of the crying baby of a random passerby. Before you could do little more than gaze (unless you wanted to get actively involved in the situation… which would far from guarantee any positive results). Through the eyes of a Reiki Master you can view the scene with compassion for the child, as well as the caregiver, as well as any other people observing the scene from their individual mindsets. As a Reiki Practitioner you can send Reiki immediately to everyone in the picture with the guarantee that it will do some good on many different (often unobservable) levels.
The eyes of a Reiki Master are wise in the knowledge that there is hope, that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, that every cloud has a silver lining, that a rainbow awaits at the end of the storm, etc. etc. etc. The eyes of a Reiki Master are wise in this knowledge and wise in the knowledge that they can directly influence these events and leave every situation a bit better than when they arrived on the scene.
Once you receive your Reiki attunement and are attuned to the Reiki energies to officially become a full fledged Reiki practitioner you are given a new set of eyes with which to view the world. Learn to use them wisely and you will be one step ahead of the game. Learn to use them wisely and you will be one step closer to enlightenment. Learn to use them wisely…

I like to say it a bit differently
I say: BE HERE NOW
ever read the book of that title? it’s really good, really inspired me. I forget who wrote it…Dr. Alpert? I think he changed his name, though, after becoming a mystic. I think it was published by the Hanuman Foundation, though, if that makes it easier to look up.
I find this very interesting as I’ve really noticed of late that I have been seeing the world very differently. One of my prayers, in fact, has been to be able to see again with the eyes of a child. I’d noticed something different and then it hit me last week as I sat there looking at the trees and the mountains noticing everything in vivid clarity that I had not seen things like this since I was a child (not to mention heard, smelled, felt, etc.). I realized that my senses seemed to be more enhanced with that excitement, wonder and awe that we all too often forget. It is also at these moments that I really feel the Reiki energy alive and pulsing in me. I also note that seeing this way does also open one’s ‘eyes of compassion’ and allows one to send gentle, effective healing energy to whatever situation one might find themselves in whether just by simply being there as a channel for the Reiki (‘becoming’ Reiki and letting just flow) or by conscoioiusly asking/directing it toward someone in need or to specific situations. The attunements definitely do change your life, and of that I am constantly in awe….
