No… seriously! Reread (or read if you haven’t) a few of the books from Tim LaHaye & Jerry Jenkins’ Left Behind Series, and substitute Reiki Practitioners for those who were originally taken. You don’t have to read the whole series, I did and I don’t really believe I’m any better prepared for having done so, but hey… you may pick up something I didn’t (just be sure to include that little something I may have missed in the comment section below). ๐
If we alter the story a little bit, so that instead of it occurring in a matter of a couple of months it occurs over a couple of millennia… that is, some people will reach Heaven/Nirvana/Pureland (or whatever you would like to refer to it as) rather quickly while others struggle to do so, others yet could care less one way or the other while still others oppose it (and some rather violently at that) and these opposing camps constantly clash (and will no doubt continue to do so) throughout history. *Note: these are not the same others as the others in the Lost drama (or at least I don’t think they are… but who knows what the Darma Initiative was really up to?). Looking at this sped up version of reality makes a few things much clearer… not the least of which is the role that Reiki (and other spiritual paths) play in the grand scheme of things.
Of course since we are all Reiki Practitioners (at least those of us who responded to the Reiki Poll) you would have all been saved right from the get-go and spared the ongoing saga… but where does that leave us right now? What inherent responsibility is there for those who are saved to pass on the secret to those that aren’t? This, I believe is the heart of the matter. In Reiki terms, I believe our responsibility lies in reaching out to those who are struggling to reach an enlightened state and ‘saving’ as many of them as possible in the short time we have so that they might continue in the vein (that is, to continue to help and reach out to as may others as possible) so that the power of the few we reach in our limited time is multiplied exponentially… so that several years (or several decades or even several centuries) from now a definite impact is made from the little effort we contribute now.
As a language teacher sometimes I feel my efforts are a tremendous waste of time… that I am spinning my wheels teaching those who could really care less… but every once in a while a student comes along who really shines (and in doing so makes ME look good), or I hear about one of my former students who became an English teacher and passed on my teachings to his or her own students, or even received a thank-you that was so heartfelt and so sincere that it instantaneously made the last 15 years of teaching English all worth while. Like the butterfly in Brazil who changes the weather in China, we have no idea what our actions will result in… and these results may not even happen within our own lifetime… and that mystery is one of the things that makes it all so fascinating. We do what we believe is right… and leave the rest up to the rapture!!
The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is
the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and
science. Whoever does not know it and can no longer marvel, is as
good as dead, and his eyes are dimmed.
