reiki-handshake

The Reiki Handshake is a simple technique I came up with several years ago and I still use it whenever I meet new folks. Its a bit more difficult to perform here in Japan as shaking hands is not part of the everyday culture, but since I’m a foreigner people tend to take it in stride and I’ve never had an offer of a friendly handshake rejected although, unbeknownst to them, this is no ordinary handshake they are experiencing… (at least it is unbeknownst on the conscious level).

The Reiki Handshake is extremely simple and there are many ways it can be modified. All you really have to do is run Reiki through your hand when you shake. Easy enough? You bet!!

Its best to prepare a few minutes in advance by running Reiki ahead of time and making sure is running at full power at the point of contact. You might also want to linger a but, if appropriate, if you feel the Reiki is being welcomed.

To date I’ve only hand one person notice what I was doing and that was my Reiki Teacher, Hyakuten Inamoto. Generally when Hyakuten Sensei and I meet greet each other we do so with a handshake or a hug depending on how long its been and where we are. The first time I used the Reiki Handshake was with him and I actually thought of the idea while waiting for him at the train station in Kyoto. He was running a little late and was a bit flustered when he arrived, and not knowing that I had been building up the Reiki while waiting, he grabbed my hand and immediately recognized the familiar Reiki energy and gave me a knowing smile as he playfully commented on it.

There are many ways of shaking hands and you can use this technique with all of them. If you clasp the other person’s hand with two hands you can give their hand a Reiki Sandwich (which was incidentally the first title I chose for this post) or you can put your left hand on their forearm or shoulder and double the Reiki energy being received. On a cold day, a nice warm Reiki Sandwich will not go unnoticed and will long be remembered afterwards, even if the Reiki itself goes unnoticed.

For important handshakes (upcoming job interviews, meeting the in-laws, first dates, etc.) you can also send distance Reiki to both the Reiki Handshake and the situation it is occurring in ahead of time. Drawing the Reiki Power Symbol with the left hand, on the palm of the right hand is also a powerful alternative. As of yet I haven’t actually given my handshake a Reiki attunement, but I’m convinced it can be done, and someday I’ll figure out how.
