In this post I’d like to briefly distinguish between Advanced Reiki Techniques and Advanced Reiki Practices… as the two are quite different and and understanding of those differences can help you choose which (if not both) is best for your own Reiki practice. When someone talks about Advanced Reiki, it can easily refer to either of these two vastly different concepts. ![]()
Advanced Reiki Techniques
Advanced Reiki Techniques are specific, standalone techniques that can be used by anyone, regardless of their Reiki training, experience or level. For example, Hatsurei Ho is an advanced practice that anyone can use and it is equally beneficial to Reiki beginners and Reiki Masters. I liken advanced Reiki techniques to tools that can be used along the way when needed. Medical Doctors can buy a new stethoscope when needed or learn a new stitching style, that does not make them an advanced practitioner of medicine.
Different techniques are also better suited to different Reiki practitioners. Hatsurei Ho may not be suited to some and so I encourage my own students to try as many techniques so they can and see which ones suit them. Then they can always go back to the others in the future having the knowledge about how they work for them. Reiki techniques are learned and often never used again… which is fine, as long as they are experienced and a determination is made as to whether they are suitable or not.
Advanced Reiki Practices
Advanced Reiki Practices, on the other hand, are specific techniques that are done on a daily basis. A daily Reiki meditation, for example, is a component of an Advanced Reiki Practice. In and of itself, meditation is not an advanced technique, but a technique that can been ritualized and perfected and made to fit into a regular schedule, which then creates an advanced Reiki practice.
Reiki practitioners who learn Reiki and put it in a closet to be taken out when needed are not involved in an advanced Reiki practice. Reiki practitioners who are not extending some type of regular effort to maintain and improve their Reiki practice are not involved in an advanced Reiki practice. They may be using advanced techniques form time to time… but this does not make them advanced Reiki practitioners.
Someone involved in Advanced Reiki, is generally more concerned with an advanced practice than the use of advanced techniques. Although they may try many different advanced techniques along the way. To be an advanced Reiki practitioner you need to use the techniques on a regular basis, in which case you are said to be on an advanced path.
Advanced Reiki Path
In the early days, one had to be on such an advanced path in order to receive Reiki Level Two training in the first place. Nowadays, through the irresponsible actions of a multitude of Reiki Masters, this is not a requirement and you can receive a Reiki Master Certification just by sending in some money. At which point it always amuses me when such Reiki Masters join forums and start “teaching” Reiki. Don’t get me wrong, some of those receiving Reiki mastership in this way truly are on a spiritual path and are true Reiki practitioners, and it is this fact, and this fact alone that has allowed the practice to continue. In these cases it is the student who has taken the initiative to elevate themselves… spiritually speaking… generally above their own teacher… and follow a true Reiki path.
How would you rate the advancedness of your own Reiki practice? ![]()
