Since my previous posts on Gendai Reiki, Komyo Reiki & Hana Reiki, I have been receiving inquiries as any Distance Reiki classes I may be offering… so I thought I’d save myself some typing (or cutting and pasting rather ๐ ) and give y’all my thoughts on that here.
Basically I have no problem at all with other people offering Distance Reiki courses, however, I don’t do it. There are seveal reasons… and here are the main ones.
First, I’m not really convinced they always work. There are quite a few things to take into consideration when performing a proper distance attunement and I’ve spoken to many Distance Reiki teachers who have no idea what these are. I believe energy is being transmitted (energy goes where attention flows) but as to whether or not the proper energy channels of the body are actually being attuned, I have some reservations. The immortal Dr. Peebles (“God Bless Us Indeed”) refers to time as being like Swiss cheese, and every once in a while the holes of different slices line up… making incredible things possible. When performing distance attunements I believe one must make the holes line up… and that is simply not being done in most cases.
Second, I have concerns about many of the Distance Teacher’s motivations. As unbelievable as it may seem, there are people out there who are in it just to make a buck out of Reiki. Don’t worry… karma will take care of them… but unsuspecting and good intentioned Reiki seekers are becoming Reiki Masters left and right with no idea at all what they are doing and I’m not sure eBay Reiki certification is as valid as it claims to be. There are some great Distance Reiki teachers out there who do put what is necessary into their trainings… there are many others, however (and some who are quite well known) who do not.
Third, I have no time to take care of hundreds of students. My students are hand-picked and get 100% support from me at all times. I can’t imagine giving that kind of commitment to students on a large scale. Granted, I’m not a Reiki businessman (that is, I’m not in it for the business) and real life concerns make this blog the only commitment I can make (except for the few students I do take on).
Fourth, original Reiki had no distance attunements, and since the mechanics of distance healing and distance attunements are quite different, the addition of distance attunements to the system changed it dramatically and I’m not positive that this is something Dr. Usui would have approved of… or endorsed. Of course there is no way of knowing this for sure… I may be wrong… but I generally make it my habit to err on the side of caution and this situation is no exception.
Fifth, Hiroshi Doi and Hyakuten Inamoto, my Reiki teachers don’t include them in their systems nor do they allow others to do so, mainly for the same reasons stated above. I do have Distance Reiki lineages that I can use for distance training, but for the reasons listed above, I choose not to… and of course, that may change someday… but for now…
As I said, I have no problem with other people teaching Reiki Distance in this way… its none of my concern… I’m just giving my own reasons for not doing it here and for making sure other people are actually aware of all that is involved… the sales pages and eBay auctions generally don’t mention any of this. People have a right to be advised of both sides of the coin.
I do send regular Reiki attunements to my students directly from Mt. Kurama every time I’m there. Those readers who took advantage of the recent Reiki contest that happened here also got a chance to experience full distance attunements from me. Attunements I give from a distance come with no certification… just the energies that I am sending which I believe in all likelihood to be full attunements… I just can’t guarantee it, which is why I don’t do it. ๐
