Rev. Hyakuten Inamoto

Komyo Reiki, or Komyo Reiki Kai as it is known in Japan, is the style of Reiki developed by Rev. Hyakuten Inamoto. It is predominantly a traditional Japanese Reiki system which endeavors to maintain the original practices and energies developed by Dr.Usui.

Hyakuten Inamoto

Hyakuten Sensei (as he is called by his students), or Hyaku-En (100 Yen) when he and I are together at some Reiki event and I am introduced as Ju-En (10 Yen) which is as close as many Japanese can come to remembering and pronouncing my name… puts things in, what I believe to be, their proper perspective… that is.. his Reiki is 10 times greater than mine!! Actually 100 times would probably be more accurate, although being the modest soul he is, Hyakuten Sensei would never in a million years admit it… at least not out loud. ๐Ÿ˜†

Hyakuten Sensei is a Buddhist Monk of the Pureland (Jodo) Sect of Japanese Buddhism and currently lives in Kyoto, Japan (yup… right next to Mt. Kurama). He speaks perfect English and that makes Komyo Reiki unique in that not only is it a very traditional form of Reiki, but it can be presented to an English audience directly by its founder, without the need for a translator, who is more than capable of fielding even the most difficult and profound questions relating to Reiki Spirituality and Reiki Practice.

Having originally studied traditional Japanese Reiki with Mrs. Chiyoko Yamaguchi (a student of Dr. Chujiro Hayashi) Hyakuten Sensei developed Komyo Reiki in order to preserve the original teachings. Being tightly connected with the Japanese Reiki community as well as with multiple branches of Reiki abroad (who again, due to his proficiency in English he can communicate with directly in in great depth) has given him a knowledge of Reiki few can compare with. His knowledge on any aspect of Reiki is simply astounding and his ability to explain them in simple terms is an experience not to be missed! ๐Ÿ’ก

Komyo Reiki

The Komyo Reiki System is drenched in Pureland Buddhist tradition and principles, and given that Dr. Usui is buried in a Pureland Cemetary, Dr. Usui himself was also, in all likelihood, a practicing Pureland Buddhist, again, putting the Komyo Reiki system in a unique position to present a most authentic approach to a complete Reiki understanding and appreciation.

Being so rooted in Pureland roots, I find Komyo Reiki to be a very spiritual system with a strong emphasis on one’s own spiritual practice over the more energetic aspects… although Hyakuten Sensei holds regular healing circles where healings are performed and multiple aspects of Reiki are openly discussed. Komyo Reiki seeks to simplify the practice as much as possible and strips away everything that is not considered an essential component leaving behind a truly wonderful style of Reiki.

Jikiden Reiki

There is another branch of Reiki both uniquely similar and dissimilar to Komyo Reiki which is called Jikiden Reiki. Jikiden is taught by Tadao Yamaguchi, the son of Hyakuten Sensei’s teacher, Chiyoko Yamaguchi. They are similar in the sense that the founders both studied Reiki with Mrs. Yamaguchi, however it seems that this is where the similarities end. I don’t know very much about Tadao Yamaguchi or Jikiden Reiki, perhaps one day we shall meet, but from what I’ve heard Jikiden Reiki is markedly different from Komyo Reiki on many levels. This bears witness to the fact that two people can have the same teacher, yet walk away with completely different learnings as we all tend to apply our own filters to the things we learn, which is why I recommend studying a particular style with its founder if at all possible, in order to get the clearest and deepest understanding of what that particular style has to offer.

The word Komyo can be translated as “enlightenment” which is exactly what this style of Reiki is all about. For anyone interested in the most spiritual aspects of Reiki, I highly recommend this training, and if you can’t make it to Japan, Hyakuten Sensei makes frequent trips abroad to teach it and give refresher courses to existing Komyo students. Again, I don’t recommend learning Komyo Reiki from anyone other than Hyakuten Sensei as you would not only be missing out on meeting one of the true legends of Reiki, who’s Reiki energies can easily break through the most stubborn of energy blocks, but you would also be missing out on a chance to experience a feeling of the true unspoiled essence of Reiki as it was way back when.
