Shaka Ho

Reiki is generally not associated with memory improvement or concentration enhancing, but I find it to be quite effective if used correctly and, well… waste not want not!

This advanced Reiki exercise is another Hana Reiki original taught in Level 2 and combines aspects of several disciplines to achieve a most interesting outcome… I call it Reiki Shaka Ho.

First a brief word on nomenclature…

The Shaka Gesture, also known as the Hang Loose Sign, has become unofficially associated with Hawaii, where legend has it, one of the sugar field workers lost 3 fingers in an accident and used to cheerfully wave at visiting tourists who didn’t realize that he was missing the fingers and took it as a traditional island greeting. Since then it has grown in popularity and has actually become the traditional island greeting tourists mistook it for. It is generally used to indicate Hawaii’s “Aloha” Spirit.

The word Ho is Japanese for method or exercise (and can also refer to the traditional Reiki Symbols).

  • To begin, sit in whatever comfortable position you like and connect to Reiki in whatever way you prefer. I recommend that beginners should consider sitting in front of a white wall until they develop some proficiency in the exercise.
  • Form your hands in the Shaka Mudra (okay… technically its not a mudra (at least not that I’m aware of) but its just about to become one…
  • Put the thumb of your right hand between your nose and upper lip so that your little finger is pointed away from you (at about 45ยฐ).
  • Gaze at the tip of your little finger until you see the Reiki energy surrounding it (this is easiest against a white background).
  • Breathe deeply into your tanden and as you breathe out, focus strongly on that Reiki energy surrounding the tip of your little finger.
  • When you can clearly see that energy, lower your hand and continue to gaze at the spot where your little finger had been. If done correctly, you should still be able to see the Reiki energy staying in place.
  • Focus for as long as possible on this spot and think of nothing else. If your thoughts start to wander, just gently bring them back to the energy.
  • Repeat as often as you like for as long as you like.

I find that Reiki Shaka Ho enhances memory, concentration, focus and alertness while simultaneously relaxing the mind. Try it for yourself and see if you get similar results. You can also compare the results of the exercise if you change hands, change breathing patterns, change sitting positions, etc. Please, do tell us of your experiences with it here.

For further explanation or discussion, your thoughts are most welcome and highly encouraged, please feel free to comment below!!!

Lorem Ipsum has been the industrys standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown prmontserrat took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.
