Or is it “energy goes where attention flows”? I get them confused… thankfully it works just as well either way! This is a ancient Huna (Hawaiian Shamanism) principle and I think it applies quite well to Reiki as well as Quantum Physics. I’d like to take a closer look at it here.

The idea that the simple act of thinking about something adds energy to is is quite an interesting one. The gigantically popular law of attraction recently made into the stuff of legends by the hit movie the Secret is based on this principle and the admonition that it holds true for good things as well as for bad is quite a wake up call. Simply put, if you focus on good things you get good things while if you focus on bad things you get bad things. Where is the focus in your life?

Both meditation and hypnosis make use of this principle and it is quite interesting to note that while these two are quite different they share a bond in the fact that people can’t seem to agree whether they are states or processes. Either way, they both take advantage of the fact that energy flows where attention goes.

In Huna, it is also said that “attention goes where energy flows”. Big cities are perfect examples. The bright lights and activity of a big city attract a great deal of attention and that attention creates vortexes of energy. If you’ve ever seen a performance on Broadway you know that the energy of the theater district grows as you get closer and continues to grow as the curtain comes up and is finally lowered creating the spectacular musicals that, no matter how often you see them, seem to get better with age.

In yesterday’s post entitled Is Reiki The Same As Clairvoyance? I mentioned the fact that I believe we are all born with abilities such as clairvoyance and these abilities are ‘educated’ out of us as we grow. There are other abilities we are born with as well and these include the ability to see energies. As children we are often scared by the monsters under the bed or in the closet. Parents general reaction is “there’s nothing there, go back to sleep” and after awhile we learn to filter them out of our consciousness. Perhaps this is necessary or perhaps it is depriving us of certain superpowers, but the fact that so many children report them leads me to believe that there is indeed something there. Rather than monsters though, they are energies of many different forms and by giving attention to them, the children are empowering them jsut enough to give them a good fright.

Personally I never tell my children there is nothing there, because I know otherwise. Rather I ask for descriptions, and here is where I find the greatest limitation to be. Children are not taught the vocabulary needed to describe such things (they are not in the kindergarten curriculum nor are they typical sandbox words). So the greatest obstacle I’ve run into is their inability to formulate the words necessary to describe what they are experiencing. As we grow, and the vocabulary still isn’t learned we start to dismiss them as not worthy of thought, and again they are gradually removed from our consciousness.

Since everything is energy, including thought, it is a natural occurrence for thought to be transformed into action. And with the added power of Reiki energy backing it, this process is multiplied considerably. With this knowledge in mind, meditations become that much more powerful and understanding the mechanisms with which to empower thoughts, wants and needs (as per The Law of Attraction) and adding Reiki to the mix, you have yourself quite the powerful combination.
