Family Reiki

No, not that family!!! Your family!!! Unless, of course, that family IS your family. What’s that saying… “the family that Reiki’s together, stays together” or “keep it in the family” or something like that? Anyway… I’d like to discuss the first saying, that is “the family that Reiki’s together, stays together” and can testify to its effectiveness from my own experience.

My son is four years old and seemingly has just started to take an interest in Reiki and Reiki energy. For a couple years he has watched me doing Reiki healing, has seen his sister run to me whenever she gets a boo-boo (so that she can get it Reiki’d) and has also seen my wife ask for a Reiki treatment on occasion. He always watches for a few seconds before running off to tend to more pressing matters (torturing the cat and whatever else four years olds find urgent), and if my theory that children can see auras and energies that we (ahem) more intelligent adults can’t is true… than he is being exposed to something that any natural healer would love to have been exposed to at an early age. Instead of being told “there’s nothing there” he’s being shown just the opposite and actually encouraged to interact with it.

Yesterday, my wife banged her knee and came to me for a bit of Reiki healing. My daughter was there when she came in and also helped with the healing as she often does (she received her first Reiki attunement when she was 5 as I mentioned in my post on Reiki for Kids). I love to see her little hands in there adding her special Reiki energy to the mix. My son came in to see what he was missing and I asked him if he wanted to help. He came over and put his hands on and for the first time my whole family was joined together in Reiki… and I must admit, I’m not an overly emotional fellow, but it brought a tear to my eye. There’s a beauty in nature, a beauty in art, a beauty in humanity… but none of these can touch the beauty of love… and that is what I was witnessing… Pure Love and I’m not too much of a man (at least not today) to say that it was beautiful.

Of course those of you with children already understand this and those of you without children have your own families that you relate to in one way or another. When my father was diagnosed with cancer I was there with Reiki in tow every day that I could be. And the memory of one day in particular is very deeply rooted. My father’s 80 year old sister was there, and while not into Reiki (my mother and I were doing the hands on) she was in the corner fervishly praying and I could feel the energy she was bringing into the mix… it was quite unique from the subtle Reiki energies… but beautiful and most welcome nonetheless.

It often seems to be the case that there is only one spiritually inclined member of the family, perhaps its a good idea to have at least one family member rooted in more practical matters, but the families that I’ve met that have had several members involved in Reiki appear to add something of a special nature to the mix and the family is not only able to keep themselves more physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually healthy… but they are also brought much closer together as a result… especially in times of need!

For further explanation or discussion, your thoughts are most welcome and highly encouraged, please feel free to comment below!!!
