Hana Reiki Kanji

On the home page design (and above) there are some Japanese characters known as pictograms or Kanji in Japanese. The 3 characters stand for Hana Reikiโ„ข, which is the name of one of the Reiki styles that I teach (a blend of Eastern and Western approaches… more on that later…) The first pictogram, ่ฏ, is the kanji for hana which means flower. In Hana Reikiโ„ข the interpretation is tri-fold; first, it is my family name and identifies this style as being my own approach to Reiki, second, it reminds us of the light touch inherently used in this healing system (i.e., as light as the petals of a flower), and third, it brings into mind the spiritual nature of the concept of blossoming (more on that later, too).

The second two symbols stand for Rei and Ki, respectively. A rather esoteric interpretation of the meaning of Reiki (and the one I happen to like the best) is suggested rather nicely by Walter Luebeck in “The Spirit of Reiki” (which is recommended on my books page) and gives a meaning much more in line with my own spiritual orientation. This meaning comes from an in depth analysis of the original Chinese Character used to denote the Rei part. The traditional pictogram for Rei is ้ˆ while the pictogram used presently (and almost exclusively) is ้œŠ (or some artistic variation thereof). I use the traditional pictogram because I feel it more closely indicates the true meaning of the character. If you separate the character into 3 parts, the upside-down VIV on the bottom is the symbol used to denote shaman. The 3 squares in the middle refer to the 3 mouths of that shaman (which refers to the shaman’s 3 minds – conscious, unconscious and higher conscious). And the part at the top is the pictogram for rain. So if we put these all together we have “the ability of the shaman to unite his three minds to make rain”. In this case, rain is a verb and the following pictogram of ๆฐฃ (“ki “) further clarifies it as “the ability of the shaman to unite his three minds to make lifeforce rain down. This, to me, is what happens during Reiki, i.e., spiritual energy is effortlessly brought in, and it is that energy that is responsible for Reiki healing.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industrys standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown prmontserrat took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.
