This thread goes hand in hand with several others discussing the Usui Precepts (aka Reiki Principles or gokai) which you can access here:

Just for Today
Be Thankful
Don’t Worry
Don’t be Angry
Work Hard
Be Kind

Be thankful for your many blessings.

As outlined in the Just for Today thread the secret to making this principle go from theory (i.e., that sounds nice, but) to practice (i.e., wow, it really works) lies in concentrating on the present moment… this is just a matter of focus. In other words, if you focus on positive things, you will attract more positive things to your life. If you focus on the negative you will attract the negative. So by making an effort to focus only on the good, you will begin to notice more and more good manifesting every day, and in every way, all around you. You’ll also notice that it was really there all the time… we just didn’t seem to notice it. In the Hawaiian Shamanic practice of Huna there is a principle (one of the 7 Huna Principles, as opposed to the 5 Reiki Principles) that “energy flows where attention goes”? If you put your attention on the many blessings around you, energy will flow to them and they will start to multiply. One of the clearest explanations of this wondrous phenomenon is in Serge King’s Urban Shaman for those of you interested in pursuing this line of inquiry. Please refer to the Reiki book reviews for more information about this interesting book.

Also, do you notice that as we grow older time seems to move faster? Years seem to come as fast as they go. One explanation is that we pass things by too readily when we are older. Snow? Seen it before. Apples? Tasted them a thousand times. Disneyland? Been there, done that. Children approach things with an open mind (or an empty cup – per a more Zen perspective) and the younger we are the more we enjoy life and the slower it goes. The more we learn, the more we notice, the more we appreciate – the younger we stay. Shunryu Suzuki does a wonderful job of detailing this concept in Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind, which is also on our recommended reading list. This explanation is supported in the field of Hypnosis which demonstrates that we go into light hypnotic trances whenever we are doing things that are repetitive in nature or comfortable. During these light trances time distorts, making an hour seem like a minute when involved in pleasurable activities… or making making a minute seem like an hour when we are sitting in the dentist chair. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Lorem Ipsum has been the industrys standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown prmontserrat took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.
