This thread goes hand in hand with several others discussing the Usui Precepts (aka Reiki Principles or gokai) which you can access here:

Just for Today
Be Thankful
Don’t Worry
Don’t be Angry
Work Hard
Be Kind

Be kind to those around you.

As ye reap… so shall ye sow. What goes around comes around. Instant Karma’s gonna get you. I really don’t think there is much that can be said that will drive the point home more clearly than those simple statements. I will however endeavor to enhance on 2 fronts. The first is through a wonderful story, as told by Dr. Steven R. Covey in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and the second is contained in the simple words of a country song by the legendary Hank Williams called Men with Broken Hearts. Either of which should encourage you to stand in the shoes of another person before judging them…

Paradigm Shift – Dr. Steven R. Covey (The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People)

I remember a mini paradigm shift I experienced one Sunday morning on a subway in New York. People were sitting quietly some reading newspapers, some lost in thought, some resting with their eyes closed and was a calm, peaceful scene.

Then suddenly, a man and his children entered the subway year. He children were so loud and rambunctious that instantly the whole climate changed. Then the man sat next to me and closed his eyes, apparently oblivious to the situation. But children were yelling back and forth, throwing things, even grabbing people’s papers. It was very disturbing and yet the man sitting next to me did nothing. —Everyone else in the subway car felt irritated too. So, finally, I turned to him and said, ” Sir, your children are really disturbing a lot of people. I wonder if you couldn’t control them a little more?”

The man shifted his gaze—— and said softly, “Oh,you’re right. I guess I should do something about it. We just came from the hospital where their mother died about an hour ago. I don’t know what to think and I guess they don’t know how to handle it either.”

Can you imagine what I felt at that moment? My paradigm shifted. Suddenly I saw things differently and because I saw differently, I thought differently and because I thought differently, I felt differently and behaved differently. My irritation vanished.———–Everything changed in an instant.

Men With Broken Hearts – Hank Williams

You’ll meet many just like me along life’s busy streets
With shoulders stooped and heads bowed low, eyes that stare in defeat
For souls that live within the past where sorrow plays all parts
Where a living death is all that’s left for men with broken hearts
You have no right to be the judge to criticize and condemn
Just think but for the grace of God it would be you instead of him
One careless step one thoughtless deed and then the misery starts
And to those who weep death comes cheap these men with broken hearts
Oh so humble you should be when they come passing by
For it’s written that the greatest men never get too big to cry
Some lose faith in love and life when sorrow shoots her darts
And with hope all gone they walk alone these men with broken hearts
You’ve never walked in that man’s shoes or saw things through his eyes
Or stood and watched with helpless hands while the heart inside of you dies
Some were paupers some were kings, some were masters of the arts
But in their shame they’re all the same these men with broken hearts
Life sometimes can be so cruel that a heart will pray for death
God why must these living dead know pain with every breath
So help your brother along the road no matter where he starts
For the God that made you made them too these men with broken hearts

Lorem Ipsum has been the industrys standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown prmontserrat took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.
